K-6 Design-Build Workshop
Grades K - 6
Join us at the Northwest Library for a weeklong camp where your student will design and build a project. The students will research, brainstorm, sketch and model their ideas. Then, working with a real carpenter, they will build and paint their own constructions! In years past, students have built planter boxes and bird houses!
A free snack will be provided at the end of each daily session.
This workshop will be held in the afternoons of July 14 - 18, 2025. Multiple sessions will be available.

Teen Design-Build Intensive
Grades 7 - 12
Join us for a two-week camp where students will design and build a permanent feature for the library! In the first week, they’ll dive into design—exploring site analysis, conducting client surveys, sketching ideas, and building models, all with guidance from industry experts.
In the second week, they’ll bring their designs to life, learning basic construction techniques while working alongside a professional carpenter.
The camp concludes with an installation and a community celebration!
Last year, the teens conducted a site analysis and consultation with Library staff and patrons to determine a need for improvements to the kids outdoor patio. They built a new play structure designed to provide shade for the hottest days, as well as new seating that accommodates multiple age groups.

This “design” week will be held from July 21 - 24, 2025. The “build” week will be held from July 28 - August 1, 2025. We hope you can make it to both weeks!

AIA Design Competition
Grades 9 - 12
High School students interested in Architecture can check out our Spring drop-in sessions to explore the field! This is a weekly design review and study session to provide support to students participating in the AIA design competition, but anyone is welcome!

The first week will be focused on design, including site analysis, client surveys, sketching, and building models. Experts from these fields will join us to give presentations and offer guidance. The second week will be focused on building your design, and learning basic construction techniques while working directly with a professional carpenter. It will culminate with an installation and celebration on the second Thursday! Both weeks run from Monday-Thursday, 1:00 - 4:00. A free meal will be provided at the end of each session.

Grades K - 6
Join us for a weeklong camp where you will design and build a project. The students will research, brainstorm, sketch, model, build, and then paint their own projects! Last year, students built their own planter boxes to take home. There are two separate workshop time slots. Choose EITHER 1:00 - 2:00 or 4:00 - 5:00. The earlier slot will be geared towards younger kids (K-3rd grade) and the later slot will be geared towards older kids (4th-6th grade), but feel free to choose the more convenient time. A free snack will be provided at the end of each daily session.
